This phishing email itself warns of phishing scammers and is therefore designed to be particularly devious. As 'Spam Info' reports, these scammers are pulling out all the stops.

Those who take part in this bonus program are particularly at risk of falling for this phishing email:

We look forward to your next visit to Shell.
Your Shell ClubSmart team
BEWARE, SCAMMERS!
There are currently emails in circulation with the sender “Shell ClubSmart” that promise a chance to win 5,000 Shell ClubSmart points.
Please ignore this email. It is a fake message intended to gain access to your personal information.
Shell ClubSmart is not the sender of this email. We are currently considering taking legal action.
If you have responded to this email, please contact the customer center immediately on 01806/260 262 (€0.20 per connection on the German landline, max. €0.60 per connection on mobile phones).

Since the scammers themselves warn about scammers, they really make it extremely easy for the layperson to fall into their trap.

It should be clear that the Royal Dutch Shell company has absolutely nothing to do with this newsletter.

Recognize phishing emails

Pay particular attention to…

  • small spelling mistakes (the devil is in the details)
  • the sender address that begins with “info.de@”.
  • the fact that you have to verify your data via a link
  • a threat that your account will be blocked if verification does not take place

Phishing scams are becoming more and more professional

If you click on the link in the email, you will be taken to a fake login:

You can easily check that it is a fake login by typing a random series of numbers and/or letters into the fields and safely ignoring the otherwise required “I'm not a robot' captcha.

After the fraudster has made it as convenient and easy as possible for his victim, you will be taken to a data entry mask:

Under no circumstances should you enter any data here, as it will immediately fall into the hands of fraudsters!

Don’t let the “https connection” fool you here either!

Conclusion:

If you don't take part in the Shell ClubSmart bonus program, you can be sure in advance that it is a phishing email.

Incorrect spelling and grammar as well as strange-sounding URLs and return addresses are also indicators of scammers.

If you are not addressed personally by a salutation and you can “log in” with imaginary data and you cannot find any information about a competition on the website or your own account.

Always keep your antivirus program up to date!

If you have fallen for such a scam, be sure to change your passwords from another device and save all evidence.

Contact the police and inform the financial institutions!
