Cologne - After a traffic accident in the Porz-Lind district of Cologne, the Cologne police have started an investigation on suspicion of illegal car racing. On Saturday evening (June 24th), a car driver (18) left the road and crashed into a parked truck.

According to initial investigations, the car driver and the driver (19) of a Toyota Aygo had previously driven up and down the “Alte Blockstelle” street at high speed several times. Coming from the direction of Frankfurter Straße, the 18-year-old apparently lost control of his Peugeot 206 while turning right around 9 p.m. He veered off the road to the left and slid into a parked truck trailer. From there the car spun back and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

The two young men initially tried to hide from the police officers who had been alerted. However, witness information led to the identification of the suspected drivers.

On the order of the public prosecutor's office, the driver's licenses of the two people involved were confiscated, as were their vehicles. Officials from “Project Race” were also on site. The responsible traffic commissioner has started an investigation into the danger to road traffic.
