As the police in Austria reported on Facebook, this is not a fake! Anyone who dials 112 or 133 will receive information some time later that, in the course of the emergency call, location data was transmitted to the emergency control center in accordance with legal requirements. This is intended to ensure that people who call the emergency number can receive even quicker and better help.

The state police department writes:

Inform the police about a location transmission

You have received an SMS from your mobile operator with information about location transmission in accordance with Section 124 TKG 2021.

The European Union requires member states to transmit location data to emergency services when making emergency calls. This is regulated in Directive (EU) 2018/1972 (including Art. 109 Paragraph 6) of the European Parliament implemented in Austria, among other things, in Section 124 of the Telecommunications Act 2021 .

Your location was therefore transmitted from your mobile phone to the police emergency control center in the course of an emergency call. This service ensures that people who contact the emergency number can receive even quicker and better help.

With the SMS you were informed by your mobile operator that the location had been transmitted to the police control center. This SMS shows the respective state control center as well as the day and time of your call to the emergency number 112 or 133.
