Osnabrück - The police are again warning of calls in which criminals pretend to be police officers on the phone and ask for valuables, cash and personal data.

In the afternoon and evening hours of Tuesday there were numerous calls to older people in Wallenhorst and Melle. The male caller identified himself as “Mr. Wagner or Mr. Specht” from the police and explained that a foreign gang of burglars had been arrested who had a piece of paper with the address of the person being called. The caller asked about valuables, assets, accounts and relatives who live nearby. Luckily, those called didn't fall for the “scam” and ended the conversation.

Anyone who is called by supposed police officers or lawyers and is pressured over the phone to pay fines or hand over sensitive data should not get involved!

Instead, you can reassure yourself by calling the local police station. Under no circumstances should sensitive data such as account numbers and PIN be revealed or fines agreed to during telephone calls. When making a check call, it is important not to use the number stored in the phone to call back, but rather to check the number on the Internet or in the phone book and then dial the number yourself.

Police officers never call from the emergency number 110!
