Fraudsters repeatedly try to scam unsuspecting seniors out of their savings via telephone.

The Krefeld police reported on a current case on Facebook .

Danger!
Fake police officers steal a large amount of cash from a senior citizen

“Hello, this is Jürgen Kopp and Mr. Steinberg from the criminal police.
We need your help in solving a robbery in the neighborhood.” The phone call from the fraudsters who defrauded a senior citizen of a large sum of cash yesterday probably began in a similar way.

The boldest scam:
The two fraudsters called a 73-year-old senior citizen on Monday (2:30 p.m.).
There are fears that an employee who works in two banks in Krefeld could be an accomplice of the robbers.
The senior citizen should therefore withdraw her cash there in order to secure the accomplice's fingerprints on the banknotes. A police officer would then collect the money the following day. To do this, the senior citizen should place the envelope with the cash on the passenger seat of her car and drive to a parking lot near a penny market on Uerdinger Strasse. The injured party then withdrew cash from her two bank branches on Tuesday morning (January 9, 2019) and drove to the agreed meeting point. After she left her unlocked car in the parking lot as she was instructed and went to the supermarket, the fraudsters stole the envelope and cash from the car.

Particularly bold: They then called the senior citizen, thanked her for her cooperation and assured her that she would get her money back in the afternoon. After the men stopped contacting the elderly woman during the afternoon, she called our control center, who noticed the fraud.

The senior citizen never had personal contact with the perpetrators. She said she heard several voices with Eastern European accents in the background.

We warn against such calls.
You should pay attention to this: – End the phone call!
– Do not provide any information about assets over the phone!
– Do not arrange meetings!
– Contact the police immediately on the emergency number 110!
– Inform your relatives and friends about the scam!
– If you are the victim of such a call, be
sure to contact the police and file a report.
