Lübeck - In two cases this week, officers from the Lübeck Police Department were allowed to help in matters of animal and nature conservation.

On the night of Monday to Tuesday (June 19th to June 20th, 2017) a Rosella parakeet was dropped off at the police station in Eutin.

The finder came across the magnificent animal while working in a Eutin restaurant on the market. The bird is ringed, but has not yet been assigned an owner. For the time being, the bird is being kept by an officer at the police station.

The owner is asked to contact the police in Eutin on 04521 – 8010.

At around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon (June 22, 2017), several worried road users called the 4th police station and said that a family of ducks was in great danger. The mother duck intended to cross the busy, four-lane Geniner Straße with her 10 ducklings.

When the radio patrol car arrived at the scene of the danger, the chicks had already been collected by courageous citizens and brought to safety in a box. Just catching the mother duck turned out to be quite complicated: the resolute animal managed time and again to escape the helpers' grasp by escaping into the air.

In the end, of course, the helpers managed to get the mother and chicks together in the box to the Geniner Ufer, where they then swam out onto the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, chattering with relief.
