Was it police violence against a child? A video is currently being posted widely on Facebook that allegedly shows the arrest of a minor at a Corona demo in Berlin. But it is an adult.

The Facebook post states that police violently arrested a child. It is also said to have been unconscious. In the video itself you can actually see an arrest as part of a Corona measures demo at Berlin's Alexanderplatz on October 25th, which is supposed to represent this police violence. Police officers carry a petite person in a white T-shirt by their arms and place her on the sidewalk. She is then taken into a police van. Bystanders speak of a “girl” in the video.

dpa's request, the Berlin police stated that no minors were taken into custody at that demonstration. In this respect, one cannot speak of police violence against a child. The girl is therefore an adult woman.

Fact check police violence against children

However, there is not only the police as a source, but there are several videos and images that point to an adult.

In fact, there is also a photo circulating on Twitter of an obviously adult woman who is visually identical to the alleged girl from the video and is also wearing the same T-shirt with the eye-catching pattern. You can also see that T-shirt in another video that must have been made shortly after the first one. Here the person in that T-shirt is resisting being taken into the police van. The SchwurbelWatch account analyzes the scene on Twitter and strings together the videos.

In another video from late afternoon, which was also shared on Facebook, a woman is interviewed who identifies herself as the “affected” from the first video. In fact, she is wearing the same necklace as the woman with the white T-shirt and has the same injury on her upper arm. Here too you can clearly see that it cannot be a child. The woman says that she was taken to a prison collection center in Berlin-Tempelhof and released there that afternoon.

According to the dpa, the demonstration in Berlin on October 25th also made headlines because many protesters did not wear mouth and nose protection, contrary to the regulations. The police told dpa that 116 people were arrested and nine of them were taken into police custody. All but one person was said to have been released again in the afternoon.
