Fugitive suspected sexual predator arrested in Emmerich/Rhine

Lingen/ Osnabrück/ Emmerich (ots) - Joint press release from the Osnabrück public prosecutor's office, the Emsland/County of Bentheim police station and the Osnabrück Central Criminal Inspectorate

On Saturday at 12:58 p.m., the suspect Reinhard Rühs was arrested by police officers from North Rhine-Westphalia in the Emmerich/Rhine area as part of a manhunt. He had previously been located in the area by investigators from the Osnabrück Central Criminal Investigation Department. The arrest was preceded by complex and very personnel-intensive investigations. The 51-year-old was arrested without resistance. In addition to the police in Lingen and Osnabrück, police stations in Kleve, Cloppenburg and Cuxhaven were involved in these investigations. Bremerhaven, the Federal Police and the Royal Marechaussee are involved. We would like to thank the public for their numerous tips, even if they were not the reason for the successful arrest.

The Osnabrück public prosecutor's office and the Emsland/County of Bentheim police station are asking the public for help in the search for a fugitive sex offender.

The accused Reinhard Rühs was in the Lingen correctional facility, where preventive detention was carried out against him. As part of social therapy treatment, he was granted long-term leave as a prison-opening measure, from which he did not return to the prison at the weekend.

The 51-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old child on May 30, 2014. Because of this act, the Lingen district court issued an arrest warrant.

Tips to the Osnabrück police on 0541 / 327 7000 or to any police station.

Dear users!

Before you share something from private individuals, please try to CHECK various statements. Otherwise you will become a distributor yourself.

It becomes dangerous when there are incorrect/outdated information that unsettles users and perhaps at the same time allows users to live quietly elsewhere or could possibly endanger investigations .

Our tip: It would make more sense for the police to be alerted immediately if such a perpetrator is seen on site.

It can also happen that a completely innocent person comes under suspicion . This can then be reinforced by false claims or false images What can happen then has already been reported in the press.

Then you have to remember that something that is on the Internet will not disappear there so easily .

In the world of sharing, a false image quickly spreads.

But pictures of perpetrators are also often shared by users. For this reason, for example, the “ Police Lower Saxony Fahndung ” does NOT post mugshots on Facebook.

They remain on the actual police side. The person in the photo will probably be found online like this forever. There are very high demands on public investigations here http://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/stpo/__131a.html
