Erika Steinbach, the “Grande Dame of Fake Spreading” on Twitter, has struck again.

This time it is a quote image that was published on Twitter unchecked or weakly checked for its origin. You can see a picture of Putin, attached there is a sentence that supposedly came from his mouth.

“The Germans are incapable of learning from history. Just as they followed Hitler into the war in 1939, today, in their blindness, they would follow Merkel into the abyss.”

Well, with one eye closed and standing upside down... you COULD perhaps pass it off as an April Fool's joke, but the problem would be that this Twitter account would then have April 1st several times a year.

This quote can be found on another meme for a long time. And there, oops, there is a note that is very revealing.

Uwe Easter Day!

Stay strong, dear friends. We can only repeat it at this point, because Uwe Ostertag is not a blank slate. According to his own statements, this is a (full-time) troll who knows how to take up current topics and knit quotes from them that would definitely pass as “real”.

And this is exactly where the crux of the matter lies - because the line between incitement and satire is thin and Ostertag has already had to answer in court .

His memes keep floating around the internet, and people argue about them with considerable vehemence. On the one hand, you will find well-known personalities from politics and the like who are being given a false quote, and on the other hand, you will usually find (unless it is intentionally removed) the imprint “In Satira Veritas by Uwe Ostertag”. .

In the case of this Easter Day picture, someone even overdrew the origin at the bottom right with their own branding, which is just stupid when individual white dots from the original branding can still be seen next to it.

“The truth lies in satire,” is Uwe Ostertag’s motto. The truth has now been left behind, the lettering on his more recent products is simply “In Satira”.

Ergo...

No, this sentence does not come from Putin, but from a man who has already been convicted for his falsifications.
