A fact check on Putin propaganda.

Absurd, but predictable: Russia, as a belligerent country, praises the “peace demonstration” on February 25th, which was promoted by, among others, Sahra Wagenknecht. Thomas Laschyk from Volksverpetzer has now shown the reactions of the pro-Putin channels. A country that has started a war itself, is actively waging it and can end it at any time praises the efforts of third parties to achieve peace.

It is of course not new and therefore to be expected how the Putin propaganda will react to the peace demonstration. It is no secret that Vladimir Putin has been using extremes in Europe for years to keep the European Union, but also the individual states of the Union, small and weak. In doing so, he uses propaganda and disinformation, especially on social media. The splintering of societies is a particular goal here. Societies that are fragmented cannot act in a unified manner. Accordingly, they pose no threat to him.

Putin has long been trying to divide the West by supporting populist movements and so-called “anti-establishment groups.” These groups are often led by right-wing and authoritarian forces and often have close ties to Russian government authorities.

Wagenknecht, the peace demonstration and Putin propaganda

And in the current situation, Putin's propaganda also follows this pattern, even if, as the rabble-rouser shows, it almost seems like satire. Laschyk also describes in his article that many right-wing extremists had mobilized in advance and that this was not necessarily rejected by the organizers. As has been documented, many protesters who attended Wagenknecht and Schwarzer's rally also denied facts about the Ukraine war. In addition, the number of participants was grossly exaggerated and blatantly lied about, as has become clear in other fact checks .

The Russian embassy in Germany also tweeted positively about Wagenknecht, but as usual with propaganda, according to the rabble-rouser. They interpret the demonstration as a contradiction against arms deliveries and sanctions and praise it as a “peaceful solution to conflict”. When official state representatives waging a war of aggression and committing war crimes speak of “peace,” they mean the surrender of their victim. The Russian state itself confirms that what is being demanded at the demonstration is in the interests of the Russian regime.
