A supposed letter from the Ministry of Health entitled “Legal basis for the Corona situation” is currently circulating on the Internet. This is fake!

We received numerous requests for a screenshot of a letter on the Corona situation that was allegedly issued by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).

Many users doubted its authenticity and therefore contacted us. Aside from grammatical, spelling or typing errors, the content was also questionable.

Fake letter about the Corona situation

It is the following letter, which supposedly explains the “legal basis for the Corona situation”:

This letter is intended to show what rights people would have regarding the exemption from wearing mouth and nose protection during the current Corona measures.

Alleged rights or - in this case - "non-rights" of shop owners as well as police and regulatory authorities are listed, and the General Data Protection Regulation - or GSGVO (sic!) Regulation - is also dealt with.

According to the letterhead, the sender is the Federal Ministry of Health.

What does the ministry say about this information sheet?

We asked and sent an email to the BMG. In an automated response, we received the information that “it is currently not possible to respond individually due to the very large number of submissions.”

However, the BMG has included some information in this automated response, about which a large number of inquiries have been received. Among other things: fake news.

We quote from the email:

1. Fake news

An alleged document from the BMG entitled “Legal basis for the Corona situation” is currently circulating on the Internet. This does not come from the BMG.

Therefore, when it comes to supposedly sensational news, please pay close attention to the source of the information and check it.

Police warn against fake letters

In a press release, the Bavarian police also announced that the supposed “legal basis for the Corona situation” was a fake.

In Rosenheim, a customer in a bakery refused to wear a mask even after being asked.
He presented the said information sheet as an argument. The bakery called the police, a report of trespassing was filed and the customer was evicted. It is currently being checked whether a valid certificate has actually been issued to him. If this is not the case, another report will follow for violating the Infection Protection Act.

Police information:

  • Traders and business owners of course have the opportunity to exercise their property rights against those who refuse to wear a mask.
  • A certificate of exemption from the obligation to wear a mask does not have to be carried with you at all times, but it is definitely helpful in the event of a possible check.
  • If you do not comply with the “mask requirement” regarding the Corona measures, you must expect a fine.
  • Wearing masks is urgently necessary. The police are calling on everyone to be sensible and community spirited to wear mouth and nose protection wherever and whenever it is required.
