According to WhatsApp messages, 20,000 refugees are expected to arrive in Munich in the next few days. But it is a fake!

The message appeared several days ago and was primarily sent via WhatsApp. It is a voice message in which it is claimed that “20,000 refugees” will arrive in Munich in the next few days.

The male voice speaks of refugees who are now in Greece and would arrive by plane, train or even bus. We already know this type of narrative from other cases, such as the current reports about Cochstedt or Altenburg .

The voice message also does not mention any specific data, but only establishes a connection with the measures to contain the coronavirus. There is talk of “curfews” that would serve to conceal the arrival of refugees.

The Munich police have already commented on this voice message and published a clear statement on Twitter. Here it reads: “False reports and malicious rumors are currently being spread specifically via messenger services. Don't believe everything blindly, think before sharing! Verify all alleged facts and consult trusted official sources.”

The police also wrote on Twitter:

No! The exit restriction is not intended to cover up the arrival of 20,000 refugees.

No! Helicopters do not spray disinfectants over Bavaria.

Fact check 20,000 refugees

also this rumor and writes that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees also denies that 20,000 refugees have currently arrived from Greece or that there are plans to do so. A spokesman for the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is quoted as saying that it was clearly a false report.

Bayerischer Rundfunk also describes that traveling across Europe is currently not easy at all:

There are currently strict controls at numerous borders in Europe. The borders to Bavaria are only passable for commuters, goods traffic and travelers with urgent travel reasons. In the Balkans, the majority of border crossings were closed on March 13th. Ferry traffic between Greece and Italy has been suspended since March 15th.
