Evaluation

This claim is false. The vast majority of central banks worldwide are government-owned.

The facts

Central banks are fundamentally different from private banks because they have a public mandate , which usually focuses on monetary policy and the issuance of banknotes. Most central banks are state-owned, such as the Deutsche Bundesbank , the Austrian National Bank and the central banks of France, England and Spain.

The Federal Ministry of Finance has confirmed that the Deutsche Bundesbank is a legal entity under public law and that its capital belongs to the federal government. The Bank of England has published a review of central bank ownership structure, showing that few central banks have private shareholders.

The US Federal Reserve System consists of twelve regional central banks that are owned by the respective commercial banks. However, they are not for profit and make their decisions independently of the government. The European Central Bank is owned by the central banks of the EU member states and has no private owners.

Conclusion

The Rothschild banking family from Germany does not control a central bank. They are regularly the target of anti-Semitic conspiracy stories.
