The energy advice from the Saarland Consumer Center can help with such difficulties by giving tips and advice on how to avoid mold.

Moisture promotes mold in rooms

In any case, it is moisture that promotes mold growth, says Dr. Werner Ehl, energy consultant at the consumer advice center.

When it's cold outside, every ounce of water released into the air while cooking or showering can promote mold growth. Especially this winter, many people want to save energy and forego extensive ventilation.

It should be borne in mind that the relative humidity increases in front of cold walls, says the expert. If this is not removed regularly, mold can form. So-called geometric thermal bridges such as room corners, which are formed by two outer walls, are particularly at risk. Even thin walls of radiator niches can become affected by mold when the radiator is not in use.

The consumer advice center offers initial advice on mold prevention at various bases in Saarland or as a callback or video consultation. Thanks to federal funding for energy advice from the consumer advice center, this advice is free of charge.
