At the beginning of July this year, a customs officer in Regensburg discovered an impressive 250 kilograms - around 635,000 pieces - of colorful ecstasy tablets during an export delivery. These were not particularly hidden, but were on the back of a tractor-trailer loaded with iron pipes that was driving up to the customs office for customs clearance in the direction of Turkey. This is one of the largest seizures of Ecstasy tablets in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In August, customs officers from Bremerhaven managed the next record-breaking blow against international drug smugglers while checking an unloaded truck. At the Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf truck stop on the federal highway 27, they found 115 kilograms, or 300,000 pieces of colorful ecstasy pills, hidden in the driver's cab.

Hamburg customs investigators finally landed their third strike in September. When investigators searched a truck that they came across during their investigation in Bremerhaven, they found 370,000 colorful Ecstasy tablets weighing a good 150 kilograms.

The President of the General Customs Directorate, Uwe Schröder, is proud of the customs officers:

“Customs confiscates synthetic drugs almost every day this year. With the right instinct and good cooperation, we achieved considerable success against international drug smuggling with these three major seizures. However, this development also worries me. Synthetic drugs pose a large and incalculable risk for users. You can never know which ingredients and in what concentration they are present. I am glad that we managed to remove this enormous amount of drugs from the market.”
