Bonn – An investigative group from the Bonn police in close coordination with the public prosecutor's office succeeded in striking a lasting blow against an organized gang of burglars:

As part of the investigations conducted since September 2016, the investigators of KK 21, who specialize in uncovering organized crime structures, discovered a group from the former Yugoslavia that was particularly active in the areas of serious gang theft, gang-related stolen goods and document- and license plate counterfeiting was highly active.

Covert investigations led to arrests and searches around two weeks ago. On January 11, 2017, investigators executed five arrest warrants against members of the gang - two more people were provisionally arrested.

On January 24, 2017, the investigators struck again: With the support of special forces, in addition to the search of a total of six apartments, two other perpetrators were also arrested, against whom arrest warrants had already been obtained at the request of the Bonn public prosecutor's office. The intensive investigations, which have been carried out across Europe for months, were carried out closely with public prosecutor Dr. Andreas Riedel coordinated and also led to the seizure of extensive evidence. According to the current state of the investigation, the people who are the focus of the police are predominantly connected to one another through family ties.

Members of the group live in the Wachtberg, Cologne and Gummersbach areas. In addition, other defendants live in France or have family connections there. The gang-related burglaries took place after undercover investigations in the Lower Rhine area up to northern Rhineland-Palatinate. According to previous findings, the loot was usually passed on to possible fences in the Cologne city area the next day. Parts of the group specialize in burglaries with the aim of stealing cars (home jacking).

The investigators found that the stolen high-quality vehicles were equipped with duplicate license plates, fake seals, TÜV stamps, vehicle registration documents and vehicle registration documents and were offered on the market via the Internet platform. Other gang members also sold vehicles that had been stolen through home jacking in Belgium, France and the Netherlands to unsuspecting buyers in this way. When buyers register the stolen vehicles, the vehicles are recognized as stolen and seized.

The undercover investigations revealed that the perpetrators had a division of labor. While one group of perpetrators deals almost exclusively with selling stolen vehicles, others work on forging vehicle documents, letters, TÜV stamps and seals. Still other groups deal with burglaries. People often change their means of telecommunication or use vehicles that were previously bought cheaply but not re-registered to commit crimes. The previously stolen vehicles are posted on Internet platforms in Internet cafés with aliases and email addresses created at short notice.

The investigation into the diverse and complex events continues.
