There was a serious traffic accident in Langefeld on the A 59 in the direction of Dinslaken, in which a 25-year-old died at the scene and three other people were injured, some seriously

According to the preliminary investigations by the Düsseldorf motorway police, at the time of the accident (Monday, October 10, 2016, 9:05 p.m.) an unlit Smart car was in the right lane of the A 59 near the Richrath junction.

It is still unclear whether the car was already stationary or was slowly rolling to a stop.

The car contained the 25-year-old driver and his 26-year-old passenger (both from Monheim am Rhein).

A 48-year-old man from Langenfeld was no longer able to avoid the Ford and collided with the Smart. The collision sent the Smart car flying across the road into the left guardrail.

Here another Ford (driver 29 years old from Erkrath) collided with the small car.

The Smart driver suffered such serious injuries in the collision that he died at the scene of the accident.

His passenger had to be taken in an ambulance to a clinic in Düsseldorf, where the seriously injured man is being treated as an inpatient.

The 48-year-old Ford driver is also hospitalized.

The 29-year-old Erkrather suffered minor injuries and was able to leave the hospital after outpatient care. First responders looked after the injured until the emergency services arrived.

The A 59 in the direction of Dinslaken and the Langenfeld-Richrath junction remained completely closed until 2.30 a.m. The requested traffic accident investigation team secured the traces.

During the rescue and recovery measures as well as the accident recording, relatives and friends of the two young men from the Smart came to the scene of the accident and disrupted the necessary further measures.

Only with the involvement of other police officers and the support of a relative could the understandably highly emotional people be persuaded to leave the motorway. Pastors were also on duty.

Witnesses who can provide information about the accident are asked to contact the responsible Traffic Commissioner 1 of the Düsseldorf police on 0211-8700.
