Is that a statement from the “Greens”: “Sex between siblings must be allowed!” ?

Mimikama: Half-truth

This statement is made by a website called “Courage to Truth”.

If you follow the status post, you can read the following content or quote:

(…) With the ban on incest, the state is massively intervening in the private lives and the right to self-determination of its citizens (…), writes Marie Rechthaler, spokeswoman for the Green Youth Augsburg. In addition, the incest ban contradicts scientific facts. (…) This ban is based solely on outdated social taboos and is rationally untenable. Unfortunately, the European Court of Justice did not want to recognize this (…), said Rechthaler. Katharina Stephan, another spokeswoman for the Green Youth, also writes: (…) With this discouraged decision we will be set back years. An abolition of the 'Incest Paragraph' 173 is long overdue. We therefore demand: Germany must finally legalize love! (…) ““

Moment! We've read that somewhere before!

True. The “Anonymous Collective” took up the topic and wrote an essay on the topic.

In it, the collective first presents the legal basis for the ban on incest in a way that everyone can understand.

§173 StGB with the penalty of up to 2 years imprisonment.

The author (the collective) then refers to a press release from the Augsburg Green Youth, which apparently has a problem with the legal situation and NOW wants to change this.

In the course of the article, the Green politicians are described as pedo criminals, followed by a quote from the Green Youth press release. The reader is also made aware that Green politician Hans-Christian Ströbele had already made a move in the same direction in 2012. Followed by 2 sources, the article comes to an end quite quickly.

What's going on now?

Let's take a look at the two sources:

The first link takes us to the website of the Green Youth Augsburg, but what catches the eye quite quickly is a clearly visible box on the right in which a note is stored for the interested visitor to the website:

New website? Are we too late?

If we look further, directly under the heading “Legalize love!” – Green Youth Augsburg against the ban on incest, another small box, also with a green background:

Wait a moment, the text of the collective from yesterday speaks a clear language - the Green Youth Augsburg wants to take action against it "NOW" - now, today, on the spot - but is it referring to a press release from 2012?

The linked article from the Augsburger Allgemeine is also from 2012.

Neither is particularly current, so let's carefully follow the link to the new website of the Green Youth Augsburg, maybe there will be something there that justifies the "NOW".

Fortunately, a search option is included there, so that we might be able to get a few hits with the search term “incest”, after all, the topic is said to be close to the hearts of the Augsburg Green Youth.

But unfortunately, after entering the search term, the next bitter disappointment follows: only the text that was already published on the old website (and linked by the collective) is stored again, nothing really current, nothing from 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 - only the text from 2012. Does that justify a “well” – which definitely indicates a current reference?

Is at least the published quote correct?

Quote from the collective's article:

“…In a press release, the pedo-criminal green incest youth let everyone know:
(…) With the ban on incest, the state is massively intervening in the private lives and the right to self-determination of its citizens (…), writes Marie Rechthaler, spokeswoman for the Green Youth Augsburg. In addition, the incest ban contradicts scientific facts. (…) This ban is based solely on outdated social taboos and is rationally untenable. Unfortunately, the European Court of Justice did not want to recognize this (…), said Rechthaler. Katharina Stephan, another spokeswoman for the Green Youth, also writes: (…) This discouraged decision will set us back years. An abolition of the 'Incest Paragraph' 173 is long overdue. We therefore demand: Germany must finally legalize love! (…) ““

Regardless of the choice of words towards the Green Youth, the answer is Jain!

The quote comes from the press release. However, the press release is a statement of an original press release from the same day. The quote comes from the original, not the more recent one, in which it is pointed out again that even the original press release was not an endorsement of incest, but was simply about abolishing criminal liability.

The further wording can still be found under the link above or on the current website of the Green Youth Augsburg.

Conclusion:

You can feel about incest however you want, you can also certainly criticize those who are in favor of abolishing criminal liability. Is it necessary to only leave out half of it or to cite it incorrectly in order to achieve your goal?

“Courage for Truth” and the “collective” are once again trying to throw dirt on people who think differently from a political perspective by taking things out of context.
