Better safe than sorry. So that everyone can start the new year without any hassle, the Frankfurt police are giving useful tips on how to prevent theft.

The Frankfurt am Main police warn urgently on their Facebook page about pickpockets, who can have an easy time of it, especially on New Year's Eve.

Crowds and dense crowds create opportunities for pickpockets and tricksters to commit crimes.

The police advise:

  • Only take what you need!
  • Carry money and valuables close to your body, preferably in an inside pocket!
  • Don't put your handbag down!
  • Do not leave cell phones/smartphones on the table in bars/restaurants!
  • Do not hang jackets or handbags containing valuables over the back of the chair!
  • Secure your smartphone with a PIN number!
