The claim that the Sparkasse is “closing down” and that other banks should follow suit is currently being spread on the Internet.

The Sparkasse is to close its first branches, and server failures at other banks are also said to be an indication of a massive banking crisis.

The image shared here shows a newspaper article with the headline “Sparkasse is closing 17 branches”. Attached is a text:

“FIRST SPARKANS CLOSED!!!
(Kölner Express) Anyone who does their own research has known this for a long time. Prepare for the biggest banking crisis you will ever see. “In addition, a few days ago a lot of servers in Germany’s banks shut down and shut down for a whole day!!!”

Sparkasse branches close

This corresponds to a fact. WDR reported that Sparkasse Köln Bonn had already announced this at a press conference in December 2019.

This decision is based on the behavior of bank customers. Banking transactions are now more often carried out online than going to the bank in person.

Branches will also be adapted accordingly. Chairman Volker Schramm will present the first new branch in Bonn-Poppeldorf on December 14th, where customers will meet employees with laptops who will help them complete their banking transactions. This probably conveys a new feeling of service here.

Eleven branches will now actually be closed and converted into self-service locations.
Customer behavior is now different, Volker Schramm reports: “And the corona pandemic has accelerated the changes.” While before the Corona crisis, customers only came to a branch in person on average once a year, a further decline is being observed here, as you can read Kölnische Rundschau

Banking crisis expected?

As described in the text, a banking crisis is imminent - probably due to the corona pandemic - which should be old hat if you do your own research.

If you research here, you will find that the Sparkasse's decision was announced in December 2019 and was probably made some time before that. So: Yes, you may have known this for a long time.

However, the fact that some of the closed branches were to become self-service locations according to a statement in December 2019 has little to do with a banking crisis.
