“We never contact our customers like this,” emphasizes a spokeswoman for the German Pension Insurance Association. Telephone fraud: blocking the social security number
The German Pension Insurance explains this fraud process in more detail: Con artists repeatedly pretend to be employees or lawyers of the pension insurance company. They call senior citizens and explain to them that they must quickly transfer an amount of money to a specific account, otherwise their pension would be reduced or seized or there would be other disadvantages. Or there is a risk that your social security number will be blocked.
Sometimes they also claim that the pension has been overpaid and now has to be paid back - if necessary in installments. Or the caller explains that an additional pension payment can only be paid out after a “transfer fee” has been paid immediately. The perpetrators provide the account details for the transfer over the phone. But the basic rule is: The German pension insurance never requests a payment over the telephone. What is particularly annoying about this attempted fraud is that, with the help of technical manipulation, the telephone display often even shows a telephone number or the fax number of the German pension insurance during the conversation. There is only one option here: by calling back, those affected can check with the German pension insurance company that the claim is correct.
