Essen - Bedingrade: The evening before yesterday around 9:30 p.m., a 78-year-old dog owner and a 51-year-old caretaker got into a verbal argument in the teacher's parking lot on the school grounds of the Bedingrade-Schönebeck elementary school, Bergheimer Straße, over not removing dog feces.

According to current findings, relatives (53, 23 years old) of the dog owner intervened in the dispute. There was a scuffle between those involved and the 51-year-old caretaker sustained minor injuries. When the caretaker's 22-year-old son arrived shortly afterwards and got out of his vehicle, the 23-year-old from Essen used the animal repellent device he had brought with him. With this pepper gun he hit the 22-year-old in the face from a short distance.

Due to the serious injuries, the caretaker's son had to be taken to a clinic in an ambulance after initial medical treatment on site. The 23-year-old suspect was temporarily arrested.

The arrested man spent the night in police custody. During his interrogation, he confessed to the crime and stated that the 22-year-old had previously threatened him with a blank gun.

The 22-year-old has a small firearms license. In addition to the blank gun and the animal defense device, the officers seized a baton and pepper spray. The extent to which a permit is required to carry animal deterrent devices is currently being examined. The investigation is ongoing.
