Electricity contract simply canceled
Sonja Immig from Ellern canceled her electricity contract after her father-in-law died. But complications arose: her father's contract was mistakenly terminated at the same time.
A new electricity contract must be concluded
But the electricity provider Eon does not want to reverse its mishap. On the phone, an employee explains to Sonja Immig that she has to sign a new contract with current conditions - i.e. higher ones.
New contract is significantly more expensive
The Immigs are angry and switch to another provider against their will. But even then, instead of 26 cents per kilowatt hour, the father now has to pay over 40 cents. That's a lot of money for the pensioner in need of care.
Electricity price explosion: Providers want to get rid of cheap contracts
Matthias Bauer is an expert on energy issues at the Baden-Württemberg Consumer Center. He explains the energy provider's behavior by saying that suppliers want to exchange their customers' cheap contracts for current conditions: "In this crisis situation, it is simply the case that the old contracts are generally really the cheap contracts. And consumers should please not allow themselves to be led astray and be very careful when it comes to establishing new contracts.”
Regrettable isolated case?
Eon apologizes for the mistake. It is a technical error. An unfortunate isolated case, writes the press spokesman. The Imigs will now be paid a small compensation of 250 euros. At least a partial compensation that cushions the additional costs caused by the new contract a little.
