A collage of photos is being distributed on social media that supposedly shows police officers who were injured in the riots in Stuttgart. But the photos don't belong in the context.

Last weekend (June 20/21, 2020) there were clashes between the police and rioting groups in Stuttgart. There was looting and violence. The perpetrators and motives are currently still being discussed.

At the same time, a fairly widespread hoax also emerged. These are four photos that were put together into a collage and depict four police officers.

The police officers are seriously injured, the claim about the photos is that they are emergency services who were attacked and badly mauled by the rioters in Stuttgart.

Even at first glance, the uniforms seem a bit strange, so you can immediately ask yourself whether you are really seeing the police officers who were deployed in Stuttgart last weekend.

No emergency services from Stuttgart
No emergency services from Stuttgart

Fact check Stuttgart

And this skepticism is right, because these four people have nothing to do with the riots in Stuttgart. In addition, the photos are not current, some are over 10 years old.

The Correctiv fact checkers have already carried out a fact check and were able to sufficiently prove that the images come from completely different contexts and have nothing to do with the riots in Stuttgart. The results:

The photo above left is from a report by ABC News in Australia . It was recorded in Sydney in September 2012. The photo at the top right was also from Sydney and could be dated by Correctiv to April 2019 (compare sources [ 1 ], [ 2 ], [ 3 ]).

It remains exciting because the third picture also comes from... Australia! Again not from Stuttgart. The photo can be dated to a case in 2006 (see here ). Finally, the photo below left. Whatever the reason, this photo was also taken in Australia; Correctiv cites two sources from the turn of the year 2009 to 2010 (see here and here ).

Australia is not Germany

And the pictures aren't from last weekend either. There is absolutely nothing to gloss over about the riots in Stuttgart, but false reports in this context do not help anyone.

This calloage is somewhat reminiscent of the collage with the alleged migrant violence . Here, too, random images were randomly assigned to a specific context with which they had nothing to do.
