A screenshot of an article is circulating: Chancellor Kurz allegedly had the Taliban flag raised on the Austrian Chancellery out of solidarity.
The ÖVP is taking a tough course in Austria: just a few days ago, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer announced that the ÖVP was sticking . However, he said this shortly before the Taliban took Kabul; deportations are now probably not possible anyway.
This fake screenshot of an online article was probably created because of Nehammer's statements:
The fake article reads:
“Kurz had the Taliban raise the flag on the Federal Chancellery in solidarity
The Foreign Ministry also expressed its solidarity with the Taliban and hopes for early negotiations to repatriate asylum seekers.”
In the article picture you can also see a Taliban flag on the Chancellery.
The choice of words in the alleged article is already suspicious, as reputable media not written about “asylum seekers” for years , but rather use terms such as asylum seekers, asylum seekers, asylum seekers or migrants.
The original
The template for the fake was an article from the website “Der Standard” (see HERE ) from May 2021. At that time it was reported that Kurz had the Israeli flag raised on the Chancellery in solidarity.
Sebastian Kurz also posted the original image on Twitter:
A screenshot of the mobile version of the article was manipulated, both the text and the date were changed, and the photo was also manipulated. Here is a comparison of the original article and the fake:
Amusing detail in the fake: the time of the fake item is 1:37 p.m., and this is probably not a coincidence. In online jargon, 1337 is “ Leetspeak ” for “LEET” = Elite. Some gamers or hackers like to describe themselves as “leet” – although in this case nothing was hacked, just a screenshot was manipulated.
Conclusion
No, at no time did the Taliban flag fly over the Austrian Chancellery, nor was it reported on either side. The screenshot is simply a fake of an article.

The Taliban communicate via WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Just lock and delete everything? There is some coyness there.
