A brief, uncritical moment with a bank customer and fraudsters stole a sum in the lower five-figure range.

Cleared account with TAN

On Tuesday last week, the injured party received a call from what was supposed to be a bank employee. He stated that his push TAN was inactive. In order to reactivate this, he should release two TANs. The person called did as he was told, with the fatal consequences already described. During the phone call with the scammer, who spoke standard German, a mobile phone number was shown on the display. But this fact and also the fact that bank employees never ask for transaction numbers on the phone did not initially cause the victim to be suspicious.
