Wiesbaden - On Thursday, con artists obtained several TAN numbers during a phone call that lasted almost six hours and subsequently withdrew several thousand euros from the account of the 83-year-old Wiesbaden resident who was called.

The brazen fraudsters posed as Microsoft employees and explained that they had to check the victim's computer. The TAN numbers were also found out during the conversation. The corresponding debits were then made. The scams used by fake Microsoft employees are diverse.

In this case, secret numbers were requested immediately. In other examples, those called are asked to allow the fraudsters access to the computer. These then have an easy time of it, can move “freely” within their computer, view data, install malware and cause considerable damage.

Your computer is often blocked for further use by the owner and can only be released again by paying a “ransom”. So be vigilant and end such phone calls immediately.

Microsoft or other companies will not ask you for secret numbers or other personal information and will not want to access your computer. In such cases, always inform the police.
