A telephone rip-off is currently making the rounds: telephone fraudsters call German telephone numbers from North Africa or Eastern Europe, let it ring briefly and then hang up. If you call back, unnecessary costs arise.

Telephone lines have already been dialed in East Hesse, but the police have not yet become aware of any financial damage.
The fraudsters dial any German telephone number from the landline or cell phone. The phone only rings once, or a maximum of a few seconds, then the caller hangs up. If you call back, you have to pay at least three euros per minute.


“Ping calls”

Behind the scam are so-called “ping calls”. These are computer programs that randomly dial telephone numbers. The fraudsters want to force a callback.
