Beware of scammers! – Phones run hot

Telephone fraud: Citizens are currently constantly receiving calls from telephone fraudsters. The stitch changes as desired:

  • “Mom, I drove someone dead, the police are demanding bail”
  • “Your child is dying in the hospital with COVID19 and urgently needs medication”
  • “There was a break-in in your neighborhood / your personal details were found by a gang of burglars, do you have any valuables at home?”

The monetary claims regularly amount to several tens of thousands of euros. The aim of the fraudsters is to use the shock call to “persuade” the injured party into taking an ill-advised action. The perpetrators often demand that the victim stay on the phone line, thereby controlling the victim.

Tips:

  • Don't accept the request.
  • Request a callback number and hang up.
  • Contact your relatives on your own initiative.
  • If in doubt, inform the local police.
