We regularly warn about callers who pretend to be police officers and try to steal valuables or money.

The callers pose as police officers and exploit trust in the police to encourage unsuspecting people to hand over cash, valuable jewelry and other valuables or leave them outside their homes for supposed security reasons.

And now this has happened: Since the weekend, older citizens in the Erfurt area have increasingly been receiving calls from fake police officers. During the conversation, they are asked about, among other things, their assets. The majority of older people ended the phone call so that they did not suffer any financial loss.

Unfortunately, an 81-year-old woman and an 80-year-old man from the south of Erfurt fell victim to the fraudsters. The perpetrators obtained a total of 50,000 euros late on Sunday evening. The police has started investigation. In this context, witnesses are being sought who have seen conspicuous people or vehicles in the area of Dornheimstrasse or Zwilling-Scholl-Strasse.

The Erfurt Police Department (0361/7443-1465) is accepting information. It should be noted that the police generally do not make inquiries about assets or arrange money handovers over the telephone. If doubts arise about the authenticity of the police officer, the conversation must be ended immediately and the police must be contacted immediately.
