Riem – A 20-year-old Eritrean woman, who has apparently been suffering from mental illness for a long time, was picked up by her 25-year-old cousin by train from Bremen and taken to Munich. In Munich she was supposed to be subjected to an exorcism by a 23-year-old Eritrean, who is referred to as a “deacon”.

On Friday, June 23, 2017, around 11:15 a.m., a resident of a homeless shelter in the east of Munich heard screaming from the room opposite. A 21-year-old Eritrean and the 23-year-old Eritrean “deacon” live in the room. The attentive witness immediately informed the home management, who, together with the caretaker, rushed to the room from which the screams could be heard. They also heard shouts and what appeared to be the sounds of fighting.

After they knocked on the room door in vain, called out and there was no response, they opened the room door.

There they saw the following picture:

They saw the 25-year-old cousin and the 21-year-old kneeling on top of the 20-year-old. They had her pinned to the ground. They held her arms and feet tightly. The 23-year-old “deacon” sat on the 20-year-old’s chest, held her head in place with his knees and held her mouth open with one hand. With his other hand he held a 1.5 liter water bottle.

He poured the water from the bottle into the 20-year-old's open mouth. He quoted from the Bible in his native Eritrean language. The 20-year-old defended herself to the best of her abilities and spit out the water that was given to her. At this she rolled her eyes. It is currently unclear whether this was due to a possible epileptic seizure or a lack of oxygen.

All three “exorcisers” wore chains with crosses around their necks. In the room there were several depictions of Mary and Jesus on the walls. Several Bibles with marked passages were also in the room. There was already a large pool of water on the floor next to the 20-year-old's head.

After the police and emergency services were notified, the 20-year-old had to receive emergency medical care. She was then taken to police station 25 in Riem for care. There she suddenly started screaming and exhibited impaired impulse control. She then had to be admitted to a Munich district hospital for medical treatment.

During the interrogations of the three Eritreans, all three confessed. However, strictly religious Christians lack any awareness of injustice. From their point of view, they helped the 20-year-old against her will. They were brought before the responsible magistrate, who issued an arrest warrant.
