The Lower Saxony Consumer Center provides information about ticket purchases after complaints have been received.

“Customers are often not aware that Viagogo is not an official sales point, but rather an intermediary,” explains Tim-Oliver Tettinger, legal expert at the Lower Saxony Consumer Center. This is a crucial difference. “As a mere intermediary between private individuals, the company only offers limited buyer protection.”

Purchasing tickets therefore involves some risks for consumers. For example, if the ticket is not delivered, Viagogo reserves the right to offer replacement tickets. Which ones are eligible or whether the company will refund the purchase amount is checked and decided at its own discretion in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions (GTC). A repayment is therefore not necessarily to be expected. But the sometimes disproportionately high prices also cause frustration again and again: Buyers often only realize the difference between the original and sales prices when they hold the tickets in their hands.

Be careful when purchasing personalized tickets

Another problem: “Anyone who purchases a personalized ticket via a secondary market runs the risk of being turned away at the entrance. “As a rule, only the person whose name is written on the ticket is allowed access,” says Tettinger. He therefore advises against purchasing such tickets from third-party providers. Although it is possible to have another person registered a few days before the event, this would involve increased effort. In addition, there is no guarantee that this will work.

Tips from the consumer advice center

If consumers buy tickets from third-party providers such as Viagogo, they run the risk of excessive prices and undelivered tickets. Since May 28, 2022, secondary market platforms have generally also had to provide information about the organizer's original price in addition to the requested price. The expert still recommends researching the organizer's original price in advance. If tickets are not delivered, those affected should contact the company immediately. Viagogo specifies certain deadlines for this in its terms and conditions.

In addition, consumers should not allow themselves to be put under pressure when purchasing by expiring countdowns or indications of high demand and few tickets remaining. generally no right of withdrawal when purchasing tickets .
