Fraudsters are shamelessly exploiting the current situation and are primarily trying to cheat older citizens out of their money.

The Celle police warn of nasty tricksters who use various scams to get their victims' money. The current situation in particular is increasingly leading to restrictions in citizens' everyday lives, but also to fears of the Covid-19 virus and the mutants that now exist.

Brazen fraudsters use this fear, but also the current Corona situation, to “trick” older people nationwide.

Professionally organized fraudsters try to gain access to senior citizens' apartments, for example because of alleged vaccination appointments. In other cases, fraudsters demand advance fees for a supposedly impending vaccination or claim that money has to be withdrawn from the account and stored elsewhere because of the Corona crisis.

The perpetrators are particularly bold when they pretend to be police officers on the phone and pretend that there is a violation of the Corona regulation and that an imminent report can only be prevented by paying a large sum of money. The perpetrators use different methods, but always have one goal: they want as much cash as possible from their victims.

Tips from your Celle police:

  • Don't be insecure on the phone or at the front door. Always show a healthy distrust of unknown people.
  • Never let strangers into your home.
  • Do not hand over money or valuables to strangers.
  • Do not provide any information about your financial situation.
  • If you have even the slightest doubt, call the police on 110.
