Security experts warn of a nasty Trojan! The malware is called TelsaCypt.
The malware is a so-called ransomware (ransom Trojan). This blocks various files and only releases them again upon payment.
Gamers are targeted by fraudsters
Apart from that, the scammers target gamers who play the following games:
Online games:
- World of Warcraft
- Metin2
- Day Z
- League of Legends
- World of Tanks
Single player games:
- Minecraft
- Call of Duty
- Fallout 3
- Star Craft 2
- Diabolo
- Half Life 2
- Dragon Age: Origins
- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
- Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
- WarCraft 3
- FEAR
- Saint Rows 2
- Metro 2033
- Assassin's Creed
- STALKER
- Resident Evil 4
- Bioshock 2
As well as:
- Steam
- RPG Maker
- Unity3D
- Unreal Engine
NOTE: Even if you don't use any of the games mentioned, you can still fall victim to this malware because it can also lock Office documents!
The trigger…
...The trigger is a security hole in the Adobe Flash Player.
The TeslaCrypt encryption has not yet been cracked, so victims have no other option than to pay.
BUT this is by no means a guarantee that you will be able to access your files again!
What can I do if I am a victim of this attack?
Download the Rescue CD + WindowsUnlocker from Kaspersky Labs
Note: If your computer has been infected with ransomware, please use the Kaspersky WindowsUnlocker program. Ransomware blocks access to the data and files on your computer and prevents it from functioning properly. After the files are blocked or encrypted, the user receives the ransom note
