63-year-old cheated out of a six-figure sum of cash by fake police officers – witnesses wanted!

A 63-year-old Essen woman received a call on Tuesday morning (August 27, 2019) from a fake police officer who used a fake scam to defraud her of a six-figure sum of cash.

At 10:18 a.m. the resident's phone rang. The alleged police officer, Mr. Bachmann, deceived the woman into believing that the police had found her name, address and information about her finances on a pad belonging to an Eastern European criminal gang. Accordingly, the Essen woman has a large amount of cash. The police officer also “informed” the woman on the phone that one of the men, “Mr. Lange,” had a master key for the savings bank’s safe deposit boxes.

According to the alleged police officer, your money is no longer safe there.

He asked the 63-year-old to withdraw money, put it in a bag and put it in a trash can in front of the house. Civilian officials who were already in the area would take the property for security.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • The police would never ask you about your finances over the phone or even ask you to take money from the bank and put it in a bag.
  • The police never take valuables or money in order to appear to be safe.
  • Never accept such telephone calls!
  • End the conversation immediately and then call the police emergency number on 110!
  • Inform family members and acquaintances about the fraudsters' nasty tricks and warn them not to give any kind of valuables and cash to strangers or to reveal information about assets!

The Essen and Mülheim ad Ruhr police are now looking for witnesses who observed suspicious people at trash cans or generally suspicious people in the Hüttmannstrasse / Grieperstrasse / Uferpromenade / Weuenstrasse / Marktscheide area yesterday.

The Criminal Investigation Department 31 will receive information on 0201/829-0.

In addition, yesterday, Tuesday, there were another four reported attempts at fraud by fake police officers. Fortunately, these crimes ended at the experimental stage. If you are affected by such a call, be sure to contact the police - even if there was no financial loss. Every tip is important for the criminal investigation!
