Just a few days ago we reported on the alleged HIV bananas from the penny market . It was clear that it was another one of the many internet fairy tales.

Now a new claim has emerged. This time the bananas were allegedly purchased from “LIDL”.

We already know this type of banana. Interesting these comments (sic!)

Well, I would still be careful because it hasn't just been found in bananas. And apparently the fruit was examined and it turned out that it really is HIV positive.

Unfortunately, as always with such statements, there is no source, no evidence that confirms this. But we would be happy to publish the result here if we get it. If you have one in your hands, please send it to [email protected] .

Why is the banana so red?

We asked LIDL, among others, and received the following information:

Hello Tom. We've heard about it before. Of course the blood thing is nonsense. This is a phenomenon that sometimes occurs with bananas. Here is the statement from our supplier: “ The documented defect is “dry red”.
This banana has received insufficient nutrients from the plant. In addition to the dried out and consequently reddish-brown flesh, the deficiency can also be recognized by the unusual, narrow shape. The occurrence is relatively common, but such undersupplied bananas are generally recognized and sorted out in the packing station. There is no disease or contamination of the banana of any kind. In our opinion, a health risk is excluded. “Apart from this photo, we have not received any complaints; our quality assurance department is of course investigating the matter. Unfortunately, we have no way to respond directly to the user's post because her privacy settings do not allow this. Best regards

And this is exactly the paragraph you should remember when the “HIV banana” comes to light again:

There are always bananas like this:
