Some cheap electricity and gas providers have simply terminated their customers' long-term contracts.
They now have to switch to basic providers – at high prices. SUDDEN CANCELLATION
Many consumers are like Carola B.: Their low-cost provider for electricity and gas has terminated both the electricity and gas contracts without prior notification and without observing the previously agreed notice period.
In such a case, consumers automatically switch to the basic tariff of a local supplier, although the price is usually significantly different from the previous costs. The companies cite increased energy prices as the reason for this. Due to the high prices, providers can no longer keep their price guarantee and therefore want to shake off their customers. WHAT IS BEHIND STROMIO AND GAS.DE?
The two companies belong to a large network of companies.
These and many other companies are even registered at the same address. According to the most recently published balance sheets, the companies made a profit of over 200 million euros in four years. However, according to a profit transfer agreement, 100% of the millions in profits were passed on - from one company to the next. A Düsseldorf entrepreneur is responsible for this, who, so to speak, makes contracts with himself. THE PROBLEM WITH THE BASIC SUPPLIERS
Basic suppliers, such as the municipal utilities, are obliged by law to take over the former customers of the low-cost providers.
As a result, energy buyers suddenly have to order electricity and gas for many new customers at the current maximum prices. The municipal utilities are therefore faced with a dilemma: either they increase prices for their customers or they remain saddled with losses. WHAT CAN I DO AS A CONSUMER?
Consumer advocates advise canceled customers to claim compensation as quickly as possible. Consumers are also advised to look at alternative tariffs early on, calculate the difference to the original tariff over the remaining term of the contract and then write to the previous low-cost provider to claim compensation.
