As the Tuttlingen police headquarters reports, fraudsters are currently at work sending “fake” emails to club cashiers!

In detail:

There are currently fraudsters at work in our region who send “fake” emails to club treasurers in which the addressee is asked by their “chairman” to transfer money. Two such cases have recently been reported to the Freudenstadt criminal police. In one case, the fraudster was successful and is now several thousand euros richer.

In this type of fraud, known in technical jargon as “CEO fraud” or “fake president”, the fraudsters pose as the chairman after collecting information about the respective club and try to get the club's cashiers to transfer a certain amount of money. The perpetrators obtain their information from the Internet (homepage) and social networks.

There you will find all the data you need. The crooks contact the selected club employee by email and pretend to be the club's board member. In the email they request that a certain amount of money be transferred to accounts at home and abroad. Email addresses are falsified. If a transfer occurs, the money is lost for the club.

In order to prevent further damage, the police are asking the clubs to address this fraud and to raise awareness among responsible volunteers. Take a close look at every email with a transfer request.

Check the sender address and make sure it is spelled correctly. Verify the payment request by calling back the club’s internal “client”. If you have any abnormalities or questions, please contact your local police station or your criminal investigation advice center.
