Mallorcan schoolchildren are allowed to eat during their “breaks”. If a child wrongly lifts or removes the mask, the parents pay a fine of €100. The children are not allowed to share anything, not even a pen. Not to mention “social contacts”. No friendships and the teachers make sure the children ignore each other. Looks to me like a dictatorship just like in China. Is this supposed to be normal? Note the teachers on the left in the picture.

The fact check

According to the fact checkers at the dpa factchecking portal, the photo shows a primary school near Madrid, Spain.

The school is located in the north of the capital and can be found via Google Maps

Apparently the photo was taken during school enrollment day for primary school students. The school published on its Twitter account on September 8, 2020. The schoolyard, the football goal and the blue school uniforms can also be seen here.

Regular school operations were paused for around six months due to the pandemic. The children have been allowed to go back to school since September 7th. In Spain, children aged six and over are required to wear a mask almost always and everywhere . There are also daily temperature measurements for teachers and students.

In Germany, the federal states set the rules individually and there is no nationwide mask requirement for students .

In Spain, the number of people infected with Corona is currently rising sharply again, with usually more than 10,000 cases every day . In total, more than 590,000 people were infected with the coronavirus there (as of September 15, 2020).

Conclusion:

The photo shows Spanish schoolchildren starting school, but not during their “meal break”. In Spain there are generally stricter Corona rules for students than in Germany.

It is unclear whether parents have to pay a fine if children take off their masks.
