Brazen fraudsters are apparently using a new scam. In terms of its process, it is similar to the well-known “grandchild trick” and the “fake police officers”.

The perpetrators call their victim and demand a large sum of money to be picked up. The mean story that the fraudsters have now come up with is related to the current Corona situation.

The caller pretends to be a relative and claims to be calling from a hospital. There he tested positive for the pathogen. During the phone call, the victim is made to believe that their health is very poor.

Only an expensive drug from the USA could save the relative from the threat of intensive care.

The stitch then follows the course as has often been shown:

A supposed friend (a messenger of the perpetrators) of the alleged relative (the perpetrators themselves) is supposed to collect the cash in an envelope. This is how the loot gets to the fraudsters. Just yesterday there was a call of this kind in Hagen-Helfe. However, a 79-year-old woman saw through the scam and no money was handed over. The criminal police warn against accepting pressured demands for money over the phone. End the conversation and contact relatives using the numbers you know, but preferably in person. If in doubt, call the police emergency number 110.
