Cologne - With the help of the newly installed video surveillance at Cologne Cathedral, the police have proven that a man (29) made a false statement.

The 29-year-old claimed that he was beaten by a police officer for no reason. However, the camera footage clearly demonstrated that the reported physical harm did not occur.
On the night of June 22, 2017, two young women called the police emergency number at Wallrafplatz around 3:15 a.m. They said they were being harassed by a man. When they tried to run away, the unknown man chased them. Only when the women reached the cathedral stairs did the pursuer let go of them and sit down on the stairs between two other men.
When the police officers arrived, the suspect appeared uninvolved and denied the crime. He resisted this.

When he was to be questioned about the accusation of harassment, the accused explained that a police officer had punched him in the face for no reason on the way to the patrol car.
As part of the investigation that was then initiated against the police officers, the video surveillance recordings at the cathedral were also evaluated. It was discovered that the man's accusation was fictitious!
With his false statement, the 29-year-old has now landed himself in criminal proceedings for false suspicion...
