In the USA, the country's largest pipeline has been the target of a hacker attack. So-called ransomware was used in the attack. This is a type of malicious software used by cybercriminals to extort money.

If you don't understand the term ransomware, then you're not alone, because the majority of internet users don't know ransomware! The word “Ransom” comes from English and means “ransom” and that is exactly what the so-called ransomware is all about. Ransomware is often referred to as a “ransom Trojan” or “encryption Trojan”. In other words, the Trojan encrypts your files and subsequently demands a ransom so that these files can be decrypted again at the end.

The attackers first gain access to individual company networks using broad spam campaigns such as Emotet and then manually research the network and systems of those affected. The attackers try to manipulate or delete any backups and then selectively deploy ransomware on the computer systems in a coordinated manner at promising targets.
