The scam here involves calls from alleged Amazon employees. We just received the following request via our reporting form

Dubious call after ordering from Amazon

Hello, today my son placed an order worth around 200 euros on Amazon, a bicycle.
A few hours later we had a call. The gentleman, who only spoke German poorly, pretended to be an Amazon employee and wanted to know from my son whether he had ordered from Amazon today and if so, what. He needs this to confirm the order. I made it clear to him that I was not familiar with this procedure and would not be willing to give him any information. He wanted to debate, then I hung up. When I searched the number online, I couldn't find anything related to Amazon. But I would still like to know what to think about it and whether my son's Amazon account is still safe!? The number was: +918066055000
I would be very grateful for a tip or an explanation!!

Number operates internationally

This number is calling from India. Not only people in Germany are affected, but also many people in English-speaking countries. However, they all have one thing in common: they say they placed an order through Amazon a few hours before the call. On whocallesme.com you can read:

This is a scam. A man with an Indian accent tells me that he knows the amount of the transaction I made on Amazon, and he needs to verify the shipping address. I immediately felt like it was a scam and asked if I could be transferred to his supervisor. He said that his line was only for him and that I could call him back. I argued that if he worked for Amazon, he could easily transfer me to his supervisor. I called Amazon, and they confirmed my orders were ok. They also confirmed that this is a scam.

In the comments that follow, a large number of people confirm these types of calls.

But there have also recently been warning messages about this number in German-speaking countries. On werhatanruf.com you can read:

The caller identified himself as an Amazon employee. He told me that computer games had been ordered using my credit card and that I should now have my card blocked. I would also receive an email about this process. I then hung up

this experience is also reflected on the website wemgehoert.de

Caller pretends to be from Amazon and asks for details, the correct Amazon customer service could not find this in the system. Probably a scammer, beware!

Precautionary information

Since it is difficult to assess whether the calls made have anything to do with previously placed orders, it is at least advisable for the person being called to change their own password on Amazon.
