The police are currently warning not only about false reports, but also about so-called fake shops. There is great uncertainty as to whether ordered goods will still arrive.

As the Wilhelmshaven / Friesland police report, many people often turn to the police when they order goods on the Internet, pay in advance and then become restless after a while because what they ordered does not arrive.

The suspicion quickly arises that you have fallen for a so-called fake shop. The suspicion of goods fraud is obvious, a report is filed and the police begin their investigation.

This is also the case in the current case from Varel – what happened?

A 60-year-old from Varel filed a report in mid-April because he had ordered a respiratory mask and disinfectant online for the period of the Corona crisis.

A short time later he found an entry on the Internet stating that the web shop he had chosen was supposedly a fake shop, so he immediately decided to file a complaint.

As part of the police investigation, it was learned that it was not a fake shop; the statements published on the Internet were false.

In fact, the company operator experienced delivery delays, as are currently occurring in many companies due to the large number of orders or short-time work.

“A negative comment or false claim written quickly online can be quickly resolved,”

warns Andrea Papenroth, press spokeswoman for the Wilhelmshaven/Friesland police station, against hasty conclusions.

“The internet never forgets anything!”

The operator who was wrongly reported has now taken legal action against the platform for the opinion published there. The complainant has now received his money back because he did not want to wait until the end of May for the delivery to actually take place.

In this context, the police advise contacting the seller about a delivery date and waiting for the announced delivery period.

In addition, there is usually always the option to withdraw from the purchase contract. A healthy skepticism should always be present, especially when transferring money abroad!

“The complainant did nothing wrong,”

emphasizes Papenroth.

“Nobody needs to worry if they contact the police with their doubts and suspicions of a possible crime!”

If you have any doubts, contact the police – we are there for you!
