Microsoft scam continues to lead to fraud

In recent weeks, the police have had to file more fraud reports as brazen fraudsters tried to get money from victims.

The scam works like this:

The PC screen indicates a virus infection. At the same time you are asked to call Microsoft at the specified telephone number.

But be careful: it is precisely with this call that the dilemma begins.

An employee (German or English speaking) confirms the problem and offers a maintenance contract so that the PC can be used again in a short time. The victim is given the impression that he or she is actually a Microsoft employee. But that is by no means the case.

Different costs are required for the maintenance contract, for example between 149.00 euros and 299.00 euros.
For this purpose, the alleged employee asks, for example: B. the victim's credit card and account details as well as iTunes vouchers. The police are once again warning against transmitting personal information to strangers or companies over the telephone and allowing third-party access to the PC.
Even if at first you cannot recognize that the data is being used in a harmful way, professional fraudsters often specialize in using the data they have obtained and harming the victims. The phone numbers to call cannot be traced back to the perpetrators.

This phenomenon is happening nationwide.
