As every year, dubious competitions are sent out via WhatsApp shortly before Easter. While last year there were “ Milka ” Easter gift baskets, this year there are free “Lindt” Easter gift baskets.
Danger! There is no Easter gift basket hidden behind the supposed competition, which did NOT come from LINDT, but rather expensive subscription traps, data misuse or, in the worst case, a Trojan virus awaiting the recipient in the “nest”!
It is this WhatsApp message with the title: “Free Easter gift baskets from Lindt”
If you click on the message, you will be redirected to a website that gives the impression that you are on the LINDT website. This is intended to create trust, but the site is NOT from LINDT. This can also be seen from the URL that points to *.RU.
After answering a few questions, you should forward the message to numerous WhatsApp contacts. This also creates the original message that you previously received from a known contact. Only after you have sent the message to 20 contacts can you complete the alleged “competition”.
If you tap “Finish” at the end, numerous additional browser windows will constantly open. All sorts of things are displayed there, but NO COMPETITION FROM LINDT, where you win an Easter gift basket at the end. In our test, in addition to questionable “subscription trap apps”, we also came across information that there was a “cleaning update” for our smartphone and that you could use it to “clean” your phone and speed it up! Danger! Trojans can also be behind such apps.
Conclusion: WhatsApp users are lured into a trap under the pretext of false information. Scammers pose as “LINDT” and promise users a LINDT Easter gift basket, which is untrue. The purpose of the fraud is to lure unsuspecting users into costly subscription traps or to request personal information via a competition. In the worst case, even placing a Trojan on your device, which in turn can attack the owner's personal data.
