The Velbert police warn dog owners in the Velbert-Mitte urban area in particular about toxins that have been placed by unknown persons in various places in the Velbert-Mitte area without sufficient warnings and thereby actually endangering the life and health of various dogs.

In the days after Christmas, two specific cases were reported in which dogs belonging to different owners found and swallowed supposed toxins on meadow properties on Werdener Strasse and Taubenstrasse.

In both cases, the dogs' lives could only be saved through quick intervention by the dog owners and immediate veterinary treatment. Small blue pellets, believed to be rat poison, were found and then regurgitated by one of the dogs as part of quick countermeasures.

So far, the Velbert police have no concrete information about the origin of the toxic substances, reasons for their interpretation or the identity and motivation of the responsible perpetrators. Criminal proceedings under the Criminal Code and the Animal Welfare Act were initiated and further police investigations were initiated.

These investigations, which have now been taken over by the responsible criminal commissioner in Velbert, are continuing unabated. The police in Velbert, telephone 02051 / 946-6110, will accept relevant information at any time.
