Fraudsters steal a suitcase containing 200,000 euros! The Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office warns on its Facebook page about fake police officers and alleged prosecutors!

On Tuesday (June 11, 2019), con artists posed as fake police officers and alleged public prosecutors to a 78 and 79 year old couple and stole cash and valuables worth around 200,000 euros.

The 79-year-old wife initially received a call in the afternoon from an alleged public prosecutor. He told her that alleged robbers in the immediate neighborhood had attacked, gagged and robbed a woman in her apartment. Since two of the five perpetrators were still on the run, the public prosecutor recommended collecting all valuables and leaving them in front of the house.

The police can then bring the items to safety. Through clever conversation, the perpetrator convinced the couple of the robber story and they stowed coins, valuable stamps and cash in a suitcase and in several shopping bags, which they left in front of the house as agreed. When a promised callback failed to materialize on Wednesday morning (June 12, 2019), the couple filed a report with the real police.

The police expressly warn against this well-known scam.

In the last few weeks, the perpetrators have made several hundred calls throughout the city, primarily senior citizens, attempting to deprive them of their belongings. Be aware that the police will never ask you to leave your valuables and cash on your doorstep, in a trash can, on a park bench, or in any other obscure location. If you have any doubts, contact a relative, a trusted person or any nearest police station.

The real police don't want your money!

The police will never inform you of such a situation over the phone, even late in the evening. We always prefer direct contact with citizens!
