Someone paints a tunnel on a wall and then an inattentive road user actually drives into this painting because he thought it was a real tunnel? I mean, nothing is impossible in traffic, but an accident like that?

As a ZDDK member and at the same time a self-confessed member of the Italo tuning scene, this image caught my eye straight away, the classic rotating blue light and virtual sound waves appeared on my head in a loud “fake alarm!” Fake alert!” floated through the room: nothing here is as it seems!

Unusual vehicle – unusual front

You probably have to really be a lover of the brand to realize that the picture below is an unusual vehicle for Europe: the vehicle in the picture below is a Fiat Strada. OK. exists in Europe, although it is quite rare, especially in Central Europe. What is unusual, however, is the front! Because these don't exist in Central Europe, but they are even more so in another country where Fiat has unusually high sales figures:

Brazil!

This is the Brazilian variant of the “Strada”. And now it gets interesting: the Strada is a pick-up (compare [ 1 ]). If you take a closer look at the accident picture, you can also see that this rear looks like a pick-up rear.

The vehicle in the picture below is not a pickup truck. It is also a Fiat, if you look closely it is also a Brazilian model, but these are 2 different vehicles:

The vehicle in the picture above , although harder to recognize, is most likely a Fiat Uno, also Brazilian and a very successful model in Brazil (see [ 2 ]). This vehicle is at least parked next to the painting, but has no connection to any accident.

This would make it clear: this accident is not part of the picture, but both come from Brazil.

Image search

With this background knowledge we can now assess the results from the image search and get a result:

Image real – accident fiction

The tunnel painting was painted like this. It can be found online using the search term “tunel papa leguas”. Here you can find out that on the 13th/14th. In December 2015, an unnamed graffiti artist visualized the old Roadrunner trick: someone painted a tunnel on a wall, just like Coyote once did, to mislead Rodrunner. The painting was on display in the Brazilian city of Juazeiro (Bahia).

However, just a few days later, this image was removed [ 3 ] to prevent accidents. However, according to police statements, no accident had occurred up to that point.

Internet invention

However, an accident was quickly added to this tunnel: just a few days later (December 16, 2015) in Brazil there was the crazy story about the young Michel Poggio, the Fiat Strada driver, who couldn't distinguish the road from a tunnel [ 4 ]. A real accident photo of a Fiat Strada (see above) was given as pseudo-evidence for this story. However, underneath the story it says:

It's all about fiction. (This is a work of fiction)

But it doesn't matter...

Because if something is on the internet, then it must be true. Therefore, these two photos, the painted tunnel and the crashed Fiat Strada, are now being shared around the globe with the message that someone drove in front of this painted tunnel.
