From the looks of it, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature. These are “status updates”. The reason for this is that WhatsApp celebrates its 8th birthday on February 24th, 2017 Smiley

With this new function, WhatsApp is becoming more and more of a social network because the user now has the opportunity to publish a “status update”.

The point here is that the user can write and post what they are currently doing. This also includes videos and photos.

Note: According to WhatsApp, the status message is also encrypted (end-to-end encryption)

However, after 24 hours this is over!

However, entries that are published via “Status Update” automatically disappear after 24 hours. You can see this under the new “STATUS” button.

In practice, the feature looks almost exactly as we already know it from Instagram Stories. The basic functions are also the same:

  • Status updates are displayed in the new “Status” tab within WhatsApp
  • A status update is full-screen and can consist of a photo, video or GIF
  • Status updates can be further personalized using filters, pens and stickers
  • Individual status updates are linked together, resulting in a chronological story
  • After 24 hours, the stories will be automatically deleted
  • The status updates can be published for all contacts or just for individual contacts
  • Individual status updates can also be sent specifically to contacts
  • Status updates can be commented on by contacts
  • As the creator of the status update, you can see who has already viewed the status

NOTE: This innovation may not be available to all users at the same time. So please be patient!

It could then look like this:
